Pork is one of the most popular meats in the entire world except for the middle east. Two of the world’s major religions forbid pork. Both the Bible and the Quran prohibit pig’s meat. While the Muslims are strict with their observation of this guideline, Christians have taken to pork like ducks to water.

But why should you avoid pork?

Pigs are considered to be a scavenger among land animals. They are often the garbage eliminators on a farm as they can eat almost anything. They eat insects, dead caraccas, their own faeces and sometimes even their young ones.

Apart from its gross diet, there is a fundamental problem with pork. The pig digests anything it eats in under four hours. This leads to a lot of toxins building up in its meat and fatty deposits. Due to this basic digestive issue, pork is unhealthy for humans.

Pigs have very few sweat glands and thus have no good avenues for the toxins to escape from their body.

Processed pork, i.e. things like ham, bacon and sausage have all been identified as carcinogens. A daily intake of 50 grams of pork increases your chance of colorectal cancer by 18%.

If these two do not gross you out enough, consider this, swine flu made a jump from pigs to humans mostly due to humans working close to infected pigs. Pigs are the biggest reasons for the spread of H1N1 and H3N2, two forms of swine flu in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

One last reason why Pork is not good for humans. Owing to its bad food habits, pigs are prone to carry a variety of parasites. Some of these organisms don’t die even after cooking. The problem becomes even worse if pork is consumed raw.
